Karen Louise Sanderson Death, Obituary: Canadian Lakes Resident Remembered for Faith, Family, and Kindness, Dies at 82

Karen Louise Sanderson, 82, of Canadian Lakes, Michigan, has passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Detroit on November 28, 1943, to Lowell and Emma Chrysler, Karen lived a life deeply rooted in family, faith, and community. She was known for her warm presence and strong devotion to those she loved.

A faithful Catholic, Karen was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Remus, where her spirituality played a central role throughout her life. She was also involved in the Mecosta County Senior Center and enjoyed spending time with friends in Canadian Lakes, including participating in trivia gatherings at the Remus Tavern.

Karen was remembered as having a lively and determined personality, with a competitive spirit that shone through in her social activities. Friends and family recall her as someone who brought energy and joy into every room she entered.

After a long career in retail management and visual design, she embraced retirement with enthusiasm. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters, spending winters in Florida, golfing, occasional casino visits, and baking—especially pies, which became a cherished family favorite.

Above all, Karen’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughter Theresa Sanderson, her sons Thomas and Don Sanderson, and her grandchildren Patrick, Bridget, Brendan, Meaghan, Quinn, and Maisie, along with siblings, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and close friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning one hour prior. Father Dan DePew will serve as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
